Kiyan Prince was one of the brightest stars of QPR's academy when he got killed in 2006 at just 15 years old. His dreams of being a professional footballer have been fulfilled by EA as he has been added to FIFA21

How trying to stop the bullying of another boy led to the end of his life, Kiyan Prince’s story is one of the saddest football stories you might have not even heard of. A very special, upstanding and respectable talent in QPR’s youth academy by the name of Kiyan Prince, got stabbed outside the London Academy in Edgware, London on 18 May 2006 at just 15 years old which ended up being fatal to his life.

Kiyan Josiah Prince (born 25 November 1990) signed for Queens Park Rangers’ youth team in 2004 and was described as a huge talent. On 18 May 2006, Kiyan was involved in a fight with a 16-year-old fellow London Academy player. Prince tried to break up a fight outside the school he attended, but got stabbed in the heart with a knife. He was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, where he died two hours later.

Kiyan was well-known around North West London for his football talent, but also his character and positive energy he brought onto people that knew him. Gary Waddock, QPR’s first team manager at the time, paid tribute to Kiyan saying: “The whole club is mounring the loss of one of our own. We are all devastated. Kiyan was certainly one for the future, a very talented lad who wanted to forge a career in football.”

QPR later revealed they planned to sign him as a professional. In memory of Prince, QPR created an annual award called the ‘Kiyan Prince Goal of the Season’, which is awarded to the player that scores QPR’s best goal of every season.

To mark the 15th anniversary of his death, EA decided to fulfil Kiyan Prince’s dreams of becoming a professional footballer by recreating him in FIFA21 as a virtual player. Kiyan Prince in FIFA21 got created through a combination of advanced deep, artificial technology, illustration and input from several scientists and Kiyan’s family and ‘predicting’ how he would look like as a 30-year-old, the age he would have been at this point of time.

Since June 2019, QPR’s stadium was no longer called Loftus Road and instead got renamed to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium following a fan vote, in memory of Prince and the anti-knife crime charity which was created by his father, Mark Prince.

As just mentioned, Kiyan’s father Mark established an anti-knife crime charity in memory of Kiyan in early 2007. The non-profit organization pledges to use Kiyan’s legacy to combat knife crime and other forms of youth violence. Its mission:

“Work with young people to increase awareness and address the consequences of gun and knife crime through education. It aims to empower young people by promoting a sense of belonging, self-worth and purpose that can be found outside of gang culture and offending behaviour through providing access to diversionary and preventative activities.”

Mark Prince was made an OBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in 2019 for his services to tackle knife and gang crime in London.
